Adjusting mind and body through Yoga

Oh, you're teaching yoga? How interesting. I could never "do" yoga; I'm not flexible. Right. Flexibility is something you may gain as you start practicing. In a way, it is sometimes better to be stiff than too flexible. Some flexible students don't know where to stop when they stretch and end up injuring themselves. Adjusting them can be challenging, creating limits for them so they can feel their muscles rather than their ligaments do the job.

A student of mine has recently decided to stop practicing. "I tend to go too far and then injure myself. Yoga is not for me. I would need to adjust in the postures, and I don't like adjusting."

That's where yoga becomes more of a mind challenge. Adjusting and adapting in life can be very difficult, but it is an illusion to think that we'll never have to adjust or that we easily adapt. It is often a challenge. Yoga can help us make a better connection between mind and body challenges.
